Moving Tips in Fort Myers

BOXES: All boxes should be securely sealed or taped on top and bottom. All boxes must be filled to the edge and not above for stacking purposes.

ITEMS THAT CANNOT BE TRANSPORTED: Paint, firearms, flammables, caustics, corrosives, perishables, aerosols, candles, matches, antifreeze, oils, bleach, unsalable containers, plants and pets.

BEDDING: Place bedding in clean, large-sized cartons. Light articles such as blankets or pillows may be stored in furniture drawers.

BEDS: Our professional movers will dismantle your beds and reassemble them in your new residence.

BOOKS: Books should be packed in small, strong cartons due to their weight. They should be placed cover to cover. Wrap valuable books individually. Do not pack books in furniture drawers or leave in portable bookshelves or bookcases.

CHINA/DISHES: Wrap china and all fragile objects individually in paper. Large plates and heavy pieces should be placed at the bottom of the container, on edge. Smaller plates, cups and saucers should be placed towards the top of the container. Plates and dishes should be placed in a vertical position with pads of paper in between. Recommended - 3" of paper on the bottom of the barrel or carton and 2" of paper in between layers.

GLASSWARE: Stemware and glassware should be wrapped individually and placed inside a carton. Do not nest unwrapped glasses inside each other. Place wrapped glassware right side up, not on their sides.

KITCHEN UTENSILS: Kitchen utensils should be clean and placed in cartons. Durable, heavy pieces should be placed on the bottom and lighter ones should be placed on the top with each piece padded against dents, chipping, or scratching. Toasters, irons, waffle irons, mixers, etc. may be wrapped individually and placed in cartons with other kitchen utensils.

CLOTHING: Our professional movers will transport your hanging clothes from the closets directly to wardrobes provided by us. Wardrobes will hold approximately 25 hangers depending upon the size of the garments. Your clothing will reach you clean and wrinkle-free. Pack small clothing articles in suitcases, trunks, or medium-sized cartons.

CURTAINS: These may be placed on hangers and transferred to wardrobe cartons, or they may be folded and placed in cartons. To save handling, they can be sent to the cleaners and delivered directly to your new home.

DRAWERS IN FURNITURE: Light articles such as clothing may be left in drawers of furniture. There may be exceptions. Do not pack heavy items in dresser, bureau, server or buffet drawers. Never leave liquids, breakables, or firearms in drawers. Filing cabinet drawers must be emptied.

WASHERS/DRYERS: Check with your service expert. Motors may need to be checked and secured. Gas lines and vent hoses must be disassembled prior to move. Be sure gas lines are tightly shut off and capped if possible.

FOOD: Dispose of any open food containers that might spill or spoil. The carrier will not be liable for damage caused by food spilling on other items. Perishable food should never be stored or shipped.

FREEZERS: These appliances must be completely defrosted one or two days prior to moving They should be dried and aired out to avoid musty odor. Safety of contents cannot be guaranteed, so it is best to empty your freezer. Check with your service expert to be sure the motor is bolted, if necessary.

JEWELRY: Keep valuable jewelry in your immediate possession.

KNICK-KNACKS AND SMALL ITEMS: Wrap separately and pack in cartons. Cushion well with packing paper. Pack largest and heaviest items in bottom of container.

LAMPS: Remove ornamental tops (harps) and put in a safe place that you will remember. Small lamps must be wrapped and placed in cartons for safe moving.

LAMPSHADES: Wrap in packing paper only. Place in cartons by themselves marked "Fragile". They may be nested with a sheet of paper between them, but do not pack them as to tear lining or puncture parchment shades.

LINENS: Table and bed linens should be put into strong, medium-sized cartons. They should be lined with packing paper to protect from dust. Do not use newsprint as a liner as the ink may soil the fabric.

MATTRESSES: Our professional movers will protect your mattress with a bag for a nominal charge. Do not try to roll the mattress because it may damage the springs or fabric. You may protect the mattress with a sheet or mattress cover if you like.

MEDICINES: Seal bottles and jar stoppers. Wrap individually and place upright in a small carton. Label as medicine.

MICROWAVE OVENS: Glass tray and turntable must be removed, then wrapped individually and placed on edge in a carton.

MIRRORS: For storage or long distance moving, mirrors must be crated for safe handling. The movers will remove wall mirrors if they are not fastened to the walls. Mirrors will not be installed on the walls at the new residence. Mirror tops on furniture will be taken off and replaced at destination.

LAWN MOWERS AND GASOLINE POWERED TOOLS: Gas tanks should be drained and oil reservoirs emptied. No flammable mixtures or articles may be transported on public carriers.

PICTURES – PAINTINGS: Small pictures may be safely placed between the folds of blankets or pillows and placed on edge in cartons. Large and valuable pictures and paintings must be padded, wrapped, and crated for moving.

PLANTS: These should be handled personally or given to a florist to send to your destination. The moving company will not assume responsibility for living plants.

REFRIGERATORS: It is very important to defrost and thoroughly dry your refrigerator before moving. The doors should be left open to air out several hours after defrosting. Water lines must be disconnected prior to move.

RUGS: It is not necessary to remove rugs from floors. Our movers will do this for you. They will be rolled to avoid crushing. If they are to be stored, have them cleaned. Tacks should be removed from carpeting before our movers arrive.

TOILETRIES: Seal the corks and stoppers of cosmetics, medicines, and perfume bottles before wrapping separately in paper and placing upright in cartons. Aerosols, flammables, corrosives, and nail polish products must not be packed.

TOOLS: If they are valuable, wrap separately. Tools can be put into small, strong cartons without wrapping individually.

VALUABLES: You should handle legal documents, important papers, jewels and currency personally. Keep them in your immediate possession.
